Steam Slashers

Brought to you by the Delta Project in collaboration with Eric Boccara

Ever envied the speed at which big cats and wolves can attack? No messing about drawing swords or loading bows or guns; their claws extend the moment they are needed. With Delta's Steam Slashers you too can enter combat in a split second and tear into your opponent while he or she is still fumbling about drawing weapons. The slashers live permanently on your forearms with their claws retracted (allowing you to do whatever you normally do with your hands without injuring yourself or others) but when they detect combat they fire their tungsten carbide tipped clwas into action position. And if you worry that that may be a bit dangerous, we did add safety handles, which rotate to lock the claws in their closed position.

What's more, for CCS users the slashers offer three enhancements. The ripper enhancement adds lots of extra damage in one to one combat; let the pace slack, or switch target, and the damage will fall off. The equalizer enhancement adjusts your damage depending on your opponents max health, so you can take on top level players and hand them some of the damage they are used to handing out themselves. Finally the sapper draws off your opponents strength and stamina, making their attack on you less deadly.

The slashers are resizable and come with a set of gestures that may well mean you never need to issue a voice command.

  • Paired melee claws with optional CCS extra damage
  • Chance of stamina gain from player attacked
  • Custom animations, sounds and particle effects
  • Resizable
  • Free updates for life

1. What's in the box

In the folder you have unpacked you will find

  • the Slashers
  • a set of gestures to simplify operation of the weapons
  • a quick refrence card
  • a pose stand in case you want to resize or refit the weapons

The weapons gestures and voice commands are pre-set to Channel 5. Should you change this, the gestures will need to be modified to reflect the new channel. All voice commands referred to in this manual assume the default channel of 5

Please note that these are two-handed weapons. Most of the scripts are in the right slasher, but if you wear just that one the animations will look strange. CCS enhanced damage is only possible when both slashers are worn. The slashers have to be attached as described above.

2. The Slashers in detail

You use the slashers like you would any melee weapon. To enter combat you hold the left mouse button down, and then simply use the cursor keys to strike in four directions.

No special command is needed to extend the claws; this happens automatically when the mouse button is held down. To avoid accidentally extending the claws you may apply the safety lock using the /5safe (or use the Shift-F10 gesture). It will then be necessary to type /5unsafe (or use the F10 gesture) before combat.

The claws have three enhancements, each of which lasts 60 seconds and costs one racial point. After an enhancement has been used no enhancement will be available for 60 seconds.

The ripperccsrF11Tear your opponents to shreds. The ripper adds 50 damage to each stroke *but* it only takes effect after 3 consecutive hits on the same opponent and will stop unless the same opponent is hit at least once a second. So this one is for those that fight fast. Note that simply waving your arms around isn't enough: you have to hit someone to keep the enhancement going.
The equalizerccseShift-F11Convert your ordinary melee damage to % damage! This is one for Davids to use against Goliaths! Each 10 points of melee damage up to 40 are converted to 1% (any extra are passed on unconverted). If your opponent has 1000 max life, this will have just the same effect as without the enhancement. But if they have 2000 health you get double the damage. Try it on a new player and you'll only get 1/10 the normal damage. Know your enemy!
The sapperccssCtrl-F11 Sap your enemies' stamina. This will apply a stamina drain of between 10 and 25 per stroke, and occasionally also weaken your opponent briefly.

With all enhancements you have up to a 50% chance to regain the racial point. Your chance will be greater the more successful hits you land, so make sure you have plenty of enemies to hit. If you qualify the point will be returned at the end of the enhancement.

4. Resizing

The slashers cannot be resized in the editor as it is no mod. However, you may adjust the size using a menu. To obtain consistent results wear both slashers at the same time.

Wear the weapons and say /5resize in chat. A menu of options also appears: either choose the amount by which you want to increase or decrease the size, or select Reset to restore the weapon to its size when shipped. The menu reappears until you select Done.

When you choose a resize option, the slashers have to resize prim by prim. This may take a little time. Don't issue another command or otherwise us the blade until both slashers have told you they are done. Make sure you keep a copy of the original slashers in case you mess them up. Note: You can get the latest package at any time from a Delta redelivery terminal.

To comply with CCS requirements a lower size limit has been imposed to prevent the weapons being shrunk to the point of invisibility.

5. Hints and tips

You cannot use CCS melee weapons with mouselook enabled.

Clicking for combat:

To use the slashers you hold the left mouse button down. If the cursor is over a scripted object when you do this, they will not receive your click. Make sure you click on land or some non-scripted object. If in doubt watch the cursor: over a scripted object it turns into a hand.

Getting the pace right:

CCS won't register more than about 3 hits per second, so there's no point mashing the keys until they fall off the keyboard. If you key too fast, the slashers will simply ignore keystrokes that arrive too fast and the result may be that you end up getting fewer hits than you would at a lower speed. Aim for three strokes per second maximum.

Single handed use:

The slashers are a two handed weapon. The left slasher has only a minimal script that accepts commands from the right slasher, so will do nothing at all if worn alone. The right slasher will function as a basic melee weapon on its own, but the CCS enhancement will not be active.

CCS restrictions:

The slashers may not be worn with any other weapon with a melee enhancement, irrespective of whether that weapon works by buffing or by adjusting end damage. Like all recent Delta weapons the slashers periodically broadcast an identification string that can be detected by GMs.
