1. What's in the box

In the folder you have unpacked you will find

  • a pair of weapons marked L for larger avatars
  • a pair of weapons for smaller avatars
  • a set of gestures to simplify operation of the weapons
  • a notecard with a briefer version of this page
  • a pose stand in case you want to resize or refit the weapons

It isn't necessary to wear both of the weapons; you may wear one or the other. However CCS users should note that the left hand weapon may not be used or attached in combination with any other CCS enhanced melee weapon.

The weapons gestures and voice commands are pre-set to Channel 5. Should you change this, the gestures will need to be modified to reflect the new channel. All voice commands referred to in this manual assume the default channel of 5

The update script is in the right weapon. If you only use the left one you should occasionally wear or rez one of the right ones to check for updates.

2. Left hand unit (melee)

The ZNine Left is powered by the tried and true Delta fusion battery, mated with the same charged particle blade system of the Kamachi Tatsu-Tachi sword. When activated, the blades internal processor block will determine which of the 5 Power Levels is most suitable for the wearer.

This however does come at a cost as the particle field is impossible to contain completely, residual radiation does unfortunately backspill to the user, therefore there is a corresponding STAMINA cost to the wielder per charge cycle, so be careful if you decide to power up the blade...

As you attain higher levels, the blade will automatically unlock higher levels of power for your use, to best realize the benefits of this weapon you need to assign points into your STRENGTH stat. This truly is a weapon that grows in power as you grow in strength.

Power levelCCS levelsAdded damageCost
11 - 10525 STAMINA
211 - 201050 STAMINA
321 - 302075 STAMINA
431 - 4030100 STAMINA
541+40125 STAMINA

Added damage decreases 1 for every two swings until the damage output is back to normal.

Stamina steal converts some of the damage dealt out into a stamina gain for you. It works like this: for 1 in 6 successful hits, a random chance of 65% of the damage caused to your opponent is converted into stamina for you.

Remember, these effects only apply when the particle field is ON. Not activating the charge will allow normal use of the blade without any enhancement or negative effect, sheathing the blade will also deactivate the charge cycle.

To unsheath the blade you may either:

  • Left click on the bracer
  • type /5unsheath in chat
  • hit the F9 key to engage the gesture

To sheath the blade again type /5sheath in the main chat or hit the Shift-F9 key to start the gesture.

To engage the enhanced CCS charge cycle type /5scharge in the main chat or hit the Control-F9 key to engage the gesture.

3. Right hand weapon (ranged)

The ZNine Right is powered by the tried and true Delta fusion battery, with the resulting energy pulse in this case spreading in a shotgun style pattern.

This effect was achieved by defocusing the emitter coil assemblies and bouncing the beam through successive magnetic loops inside the barrel, this has the end result of an extremely powerful short range expanding blast, it should be noted though at ranges over 50m, both accuracy and power diminish sharply.

Due to the extremely high energy loading and the compact size of the device, only 3 discharges are possible before the reloading sequence is engaged.

To make the weapon ready to fire you may either:

  • Left click on the weapon
  • type /5arm in chat
  • press the F10 key to engage the gesture

To fire the weapon, arm it, enter Mouselook by clicking on the 'mouselook' icon or pressing the M key while the main chat is disabled, and click the left mouse button. To exit Mouselook, press your Escape key or press the M key again.

To deactivate the weapon again, type /5safe in the main chat or hit the F10 key to start the gesture

The weapon has a 3 round capacity (magazine) which is reloaded either manually by typing /5reload in chat, or using the supplied gesture (Shift F10) This weapon will auto reload when its empty.

5. Resizing

The bracers cannot be resized in the editor as they are no mod. However, you may adjust the size using a menu. For this it is best to wear just one of the weapons at a time.

Wear the weapon you want to resize and say /5lresize or /5rresizein chat. A menu of options appears: either choose the amount by which you want to increase or decrease the size, or select Reset to restore the weapon to its size when shipped. The menu reappears until you select Done.

Resizing the weapon may slightly change its shape. The blade prim in particular is already as thin as a second life prim can be, and so it will get no thinner. You must judge what looks acceptable. A lower size limit has been imposed to prevent the weapons being shrunk to the point of invisibility.

6. Hints and tips

Mouselook Zoom:

Zoom in mouselook - Invaluable for distance work, press Ctrl-8 to zoom out, Ctrl-0 (zero) to zoom in and Ctrl-9 to reset it to normal. The zoom factor WILL mean the difference between hit & miss on far away targets. You get up to 13x nearer...

Note: Stand still and use single shot for sniping, it's a lot more accurate

Don't forget to Ctrl-9 when done, it's really weird doing anything in normal mode at 13x zoom.

Draw Distance:

From your Client's menu, pick Edit > Preferences, go into 'Graphics', look for 'Draw Distance' and change this value to up to 512m for those far away targets. Just don't forget to change it back to the original value when you're done, as it takes a lot of machine resource to draw all the objects in a 512m wide area.
